What are Immunisation History Statements?

Australia operates two national immunisation registers:

  • the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
  • the National Human Papillomavirus Vaccination Program Register (HPV Register).

Immunisation History Statements are a listing of all your vaccinations. The Statements are available from both the AIR and the HPV Register.

Immunisation History Statements may be necessary for child care and school enrolment, and employment at certain workplaces. Centrelink uses them to determine eligibility for some family assistance payments.

It’s up to the vaccination provider to put your vaccines on the AIR. It’s a good idea to remind them.

The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)

The AIR can record:

  • childhood vaccines given since 1 January 1996
  • adult vaccines given since 30 September 2016
  • vaccines through the free National Immunisation Program
  • vaccines you’ve paid for privately.

AIR Immunisation History Statements

For adults and teenagers

Due to privacy laws, anyone aged 14 or older has to get their own statement. They can do this:

For your child

You can get your child’s statement if they are under 14 years of age.

The quickest way to get your child’s statement is by using your Medicare online account through myGov or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app. You can save and email the statement directly to your child’s pre-school or childcare centre.

You can also call the AIR enquiries line. It can take 14 days to get your statement in the post.

HPV Register

The HPV Register contains details of HPV vaccinations given through school programs since 2007.

HPV Register Immunisation History Statements

The HPV Register automatically sends a Vaccination History Statement to you once you have received the full course of the HPV vaccine.

You can phone the HPV Register Contact Centre on 1800 478 734 if you would like details of your child’s HPV register record.
