The Australian Government will provide $20 million to boost drug and alcohol treatment services in South Australia particularly in regional and rural areas.
The Hon Greg Hunt MP
Minister for Health
23 November 2018
The Liberal National Government will provide $20 million to boost drug and alcohol treatment services in South Australia particularly in regional and rural areas.
The funding will be available over three years and will be provided as grants of up to $2.5 million in each identified area of need within the state.
The areas of need include the Fleurieu region, Peterborough and Mid North, Port Augusta, Ceduna, Murray Bridge, Playford, Port Adelaide and Onkaparinga.
Alcohol and drug misuse affects not just the individuals involved, but the people and communities around them. Drug and alcohol treatment services are crucial to enable people with substance problems to get their lives back on track.
This funding will make a huge difference to South Australian communities by giving people with alcohol and drug issues the chance to get their lives back on track.
This is especially true in areas such as those identified areas of need where these services may be limited.
This funding will target areas of South Australia that need it most and ensure people struggling with alcohol and drug misuse can receive the right treatment in the right place at the right time.
The Morrison Government is committed to building safe and healthy communities by reducing the impacts of substance abuse. Our balanced approach includes funding treatment services, prevention, research, and law enforcement.
This is why the Morrison Government has committed more than $720 million over four years to reduce the impact of drug and alcohol misuse on individuals, families and communities.
Applications for grants open today and close on 20 December. I encourage drug and alcohol services in the identified areas of need to apply.
