94% of Australian five year olds and over 96% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 5 year old are now fully vaccinated.

Coverage rates amongst Australian children continue to improve with five year old children having the highest coverage rates in history.

As of December 2017, 94% of all five year old children and 96.2% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are fully immunised against serious diseases known to cause illness, disability and sometimes death.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander five year olds are the first cohort to reach the nation’s aspirational coverage target of 95 per cent.

The national immunisation coverage is the percentage of children in Australia who have received all the vaccines recommended for their age in the National Immunisation Program Schedule.

Immunisation data collected by the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) is used to report on immunisation coverage rates.

The Australian Government is making available approximately $460 million in 2017-18 for vaccines and related activities through the National Immunisation Program.
